Do you have the need to see about two million dollars worth of vehicles all at one time? Even better, do you want to drive them? I’d heard about track days conducted by different organizations, but I had never had the pleasure of attending such a gathering.
Last week I had the good fortune of joining a close friend for his track day at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park near Bowmanville, Ontario. GTA Exotics held an event on an almost perfect day.
GTA’s fleet includes vehicles like the Lamborghini Aventador, Gallardo and Huracan, Ferrari 488 GTB (my friend’s choice), McLaren 570S, Audi R8 Spyder, Acura NSX, Nissan GT-R and Porsche GT3 RS, among others. A dream garage, for sure.
It’s simple pay to play. You purchase a number of laps with a rate determined by which vehicle you want to drive. You also have the option to have an instructor act as your co-pilot.
We waited patiently for his appointed time, as they were running just a bit behind in their schedule. GTA had lots of staff available to keep people organized. They were wearing masks, and wiping the vehicles down between each ride.
One common element to the whole afternoon? The number of silly grins on people’s faces. Since the event was outdoors and social distancing was pretty easy to maintain, the reactions of the drivers as they emerged from the cars (peeling off their masks as they exited) were on display for everyone to enjoy.
My friend’s face was beet red, in a really good way. He said having the instructor with him, coaching him throughout his run helped him get the most out of the car and his drive.
Since the past few months have been so stressful, it was wonderful to see so many people enjoying themselves and smiling.
Here’s a brief video of my friend tearing through a slalom course. Track day was a brilliant success. Take a break and enjoy the photos and the short video.
