Tenchu, Familia GTR Turbo 4WD. Group A homologation - OzMazdaClub ...
This one is mine, a 93 Familia GTR Turbo 4WD named Tenchu (Japanese for Wrath of Heaven, somewhat suiting to the car in my opinion
). Originally bought to be a play thing in the mean time until I had saved up enough money to buy a MX-5 SE Turbo, but turns out it's a damn fun car so not sure if I will actually get the SE anymore... If I could I'd own both but having more then one car in this day & age isn't all that easy or economical. When I got the GTR it had a large aftermarket front mount intercooler, K&N pod filter, 3" stainless exhaust system with high flow cat, VDO boost gauge in a bad spot, 16" A-Tech bronze wheels, slotted Mazda 6 brake rotors, GFB atmospheric BOV, Walbro fuel pump, Exedy HD Sports Tuff organic clutch, alarm/immobiliser/turbo timer, Sony headunit/sub. Have since gone back to a stock intercooler (the big one scraped on some speed bumps/driveways, stuck out the bottom of the bumper, could be an easy defect), refitted the stock recirculation BOV, fitted a JetCo shielded dry air filter pod (Manufactured by Simota. I don't like K&N oiled filters), & added a CG Lock seatbelt locker. Recently changed the rear hatch carpet so theres now no spare wheel cover. More practical to use now & much easier to repressure with air with the subwoofer in place. Certainly don't see many of these on the road. There were only 2200 GTRs with 300 GT-AEs (a base model lighter weight GTR thats even more suited to racing with a close ratio gearbox). These 2500 were the Group A homologation series for World Rallying back in the early 90's. Mazda had to build this amount to comply with the racing rules so they could race. However they ended up pulling out of rallying before the GTRs/GTAEs got the chance to race in Group A. The cars did race in Group N with private teams & had some good success too. The GTR makes stock 210hp/155kw crank, 235nm torque at...
