Wheels: Father and son 'play with' a '52 Chevy

Walking around the Woodbury Car Show this early Fall, I looked up.

And there it was in all its glory: glinting in the sun, a ’52 Chevrolet Bel Air Sedan Deluxe. Immaculate. Cream over red two-tone paint.  And a smiling gentleman ready to talk to me.

Of course the car had a story, like all the rest.

Walter Dietrich said that he and his son, Rich, owned it, and yes, I could write about it. I marveled at its restored-better-than-new condition inside and out. And ’52 Chevys were rare, in my experience of going to car shows.

She’d been trying to sell it after her husband. Ross, had passed away six years before. Ross had bought the Chevy from Jerry Anders in Pottsville, Pa., who’d had it restored by the Chevrolet dealer in Pottsville.

GM recalling around 53000 Chevrolet Cobalt, Saturn Ion and Pontiac ...

Due to the risk of a fuel leakage, General Motors is recalling about 53,000 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Saturn Ion and Pontiac G5 vehicles, which were sold in the states of Arizona, Texas, California, Florida and Nevada. A problem has been detected in the plastic supply or return port on the modular reservoir assembly.

It is feared that a fire may result due to fuel leakage that could be exposed to an ignition source. In more cases, the leak will adversely affect the car’s performance and mileage. At the NHTSA website, GM said that the plastic supply or the return port on the modular reservoir assembly may crack.

If either of these ports develops a crack, fuel will then leak. When the crack gets larger, fuel will be seen dripping onto the ground. When a company announces a recall, that means that repairs will be done free of charge by dealers and repair shops. GM will be replacing the fuel pump module entirely.

As a precautionary measure, GM will extend coverage for the mentioned vehicles, as well as the model year 2006, sold in Alabama , Arkansas , California , Florida , Georgia , Hawaii , Louisiana , Mississippi , North Carolina , New Mexico , Oklahoma , South Carolina , Tennessee and Texas . The same measure will be taken for 2007 model years vehicles sold in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Tennessee.
