De Phillippi And Smrz Ready To Race At Silverstone
Silverstone, October 30, 2009: Team USA Scholarship drivers Connor De
Phillippi and Brett Smrz have spent the last two days at Silverstone, the
self-styled “Home of British Motor Racing,” in preparation for
this weekend’s Walter Hayes Trophy races. Both youngsters are ready
to take on the very best British Formula Ford racers when the competition
begins in earnest with official qualifying tomorrow morning.
“I’m comfortable, happy,” says De Phillippi, 16, from
San Clemente, Calif. “The team is doing a fantastic job. We’ve
got the people and the equipment to take it to the podium, so it’s
just a question of getting the job done.
“The car’s setup is great. Brett and I are turning
competitive lap times and we haven’t run new tires yet, so we
definitely think we can pick up more time.”

Mazda Up The Heat On Ford « On The Automotive
Always looking to break into new territory and lead the way, Mazda have released a number that is in full gear to take over the Ford Focus RS.
The 3 MPS is built on the same platform as the Focus RS, but in terms of design philosophy it’s a very different proposition. With a sporty and determined looking face, it’s powered by a 256bhp four cylinder turbocharged engine, and with all its might, the five-door Mazda is aiming to steal the RS’s limelight with its rapid performance and sizeable £4,895 price advantage with the MPS coming in at £21,500.

This 3 MPS is aiming to be the one to beat but seeing off the flagship Focus won’t be an easy task as the RS has already beaten off the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X with a suitable be-spoilered stick. However, considering the Mazda’s specification and value for money, it certainly has the power to cause an upset.
Most dealerships in and around Kent will be stocking up with these bad boys. Ford may have lead the way in the affordable hot hatch market but Mazda has clearly come to play and to play a bit dirty- let’s just hope they do just that – I really don’t want to see more of those flourescent RSs tooling around and would be a lot happier seeing this new Mazda3 in Kent instead.
